Echoes of silence in a crowded room

whispers s c r a t c h like
                sandpaper on nerves
fluorescent flickers = needles in eyes
         tick tock tick tock
(time stretches ∞ elastic ∞ snaps)

words float
            d
            o
            w
            n
a waterfall of meaning
I cannot grasp

emotions:
 nebulous clouds
   shifting shapes
     I name them wrong
       always wrong
         (am I wrong?)

routine: lifeline | prison
  shattered by unexpected
                 d
                  e
                   v
                    i
                     a
                      t
                       i
                        o
                         n
                          s

joy?
 a distant bird song
   through soundproof glass
I press my ear against cold panes
       straining to hear

alone
  in a sea of faces
    expressions blur
like words in a foreign tongue
        I am an island
          of misunderstanding

touch:
 <too much>
   {not enough}
     [make it stop]
       (don't let go)

the world: a puzzle
 missing pieces
   edges don't align
     I don't f i t

  gray
    days
      blur
        into
          endless
            fog

in the quiet corners of my mind
 a small voice whispers:
   y o u a r e e n o u g h
     (but the echoes don't believe)
