Hello everyone! Today is World Autism Awareness Day, a special day designated by the United Nations to celebrate and advocate for autistic people everywhere. My little brother Ilya and I – we’re both autistic – decided to write a poem together to honor the occasion. We hope you enjoy it!
I know I’ve been a little quiet on the blog lately. School and dance keep me super busy! But I promise to post more often this month, especially since April is Autism (Acceptance) Month. As an autistic person, it’s important to me to shine a light on autism, and I know my dad plans to share some deeper thoughts on the subject too.
Our poem:
Imagine a world where colors sing, where laughter dances in the air,
a symphony of vibrant hues, of joy beyond compare.
Butterflies with painted wings, their flight a gentle rhyme,
and flowers whisper melodies, marking playful time.
In sunlight beams and summer breeze, a thousand wonders start,
where every child is special, with magic in their heart.
In a land of endless dreams, where unicorns roam free,
there lives a child with eyes that see an extraordinary sea.
The world may spin a different way, with puzzles to unbind,
but bravery their compass is, adventures they will find.
They sketch their thoughts with colors bold, each stroke a story told,
a masterpiece upon the page, where every word is gold.
With crayons of imagination, let’s draw a rainbow sky,
where differences are bridges built, where spirits learn to fly.
Each shade we find, a strength unbound, a note within a song,
a tapestry of hearts and minds, where everyone belongs.
For understanding is the paint, and kindness holds our brushes true,
as every shade together gleams, a work of art shines through.
As the poem finds its resting place, let hearts be filled with light,
in this world of words and wonder, acceptance takes its flight.
We celebrate the minds that soar in ways we can’t foresee,
for in a world where colors sing, each voice paints brilliantly.
Let every star within them burn, a beacon shining clear,
their light will guide us on this way, throughout the endless year.
