Poems for Father’s Day

I could have waited to share these poems until next week, as that’s when we celebrate Father’s Day here in Poland. However, I was born in Ukraine and my heart will always be there. Both of my dads came from Ukraine as well, so it felt fitting to share these today, on Father’s Day in Ukraine and many other countries.

These poems are written for my dads, which still feels strange to say, as I am fortunate to have two fathers in my life – one biological and one adoptive. I am deeply grateful for the care they’ve both shown me, and proud to be their son.

I know my biological father would be proud of the person I’m becoming and happy to see me moving forward, watching over me from Heaven. He gave me the gift of life by protecting me and bringing me across the border. And I know my adoptive father is proud of me, showing his love through his words and actions every day.

Although I still grieve the loss of my biological father, I am immensely grateful for both of them.

So to both my biological father and my adoptive father, I love you both deeply. And to anyone who reads these poems, I hope my love for my fathers shines through.

My poem for my (adoptive) dad: My Dad, My Hero, My Everything

He came along, two years ago,
a stranger then, but not for long, you know.
He took my hand, he called me “son,”
and right away, the bond begun.
He’s not my blood, but it’s all the same,
’cause family is love, not just a name.
Through thick and thin, he’s always near.
The greatest dad, that’s crystal clear!

We play and laugh, we build and explore,
his hugs are warm, from head to toe.
He helps with homework, wipes my tears,
he cheers me on, and calms my fears.
I know he’ll always have my back,
a love like ours, we’ll never lack.

He’s strong and brave, he’s smart and kind,
the bestest dad you’ll ever find.
My hero, my friend, my guiding light,
he makes each day so sunny and bright.

He teaches me to be a good man,
to always try, and do all I can,
to stand up tall, do what’s right,
and always chase my dreams with all my might.
I’m so lucky, I’ve gotta say,
to have a dad who’s here to stay.

So here’s to you, Dad, I love you so,
more than all the stars that glow.
I’m yours forever, and you’re mine too,
my heart is filled with love for you.
Together we’ll make memories galore,
and write our story, evermore!

My poem for my biological dad: My Forever Dad

A secret wish, a silent cheer,
for a dad not near, yet always dear.
Across miles and moments, a bond we share,
a whisper on the wind, a love so rare.
Though life’s paths twisted, turned, and grew,
the seed you planted, within me bloomed true.
With gratitude’s glow, I send this rhyme.
Happy Father’s Day, a gift of time.

From the heart of a child, a feeling deep,
of memories held, that gently sleep.
A twinkle in your eye, a smile so bright,
the laughter we shared, day and through night.
Though life’s journey took an unexpected bend,
the love we had then, will never end.

A rainbow bridge, connects our souls,
a love that lasts, beyond life’s roles.
A quiet thank you, for all you’ve done,
the dad who started, my life’s long run.

In every step, I take with pride,
your guiding hand, walks by my side.
The lessons learned, the love you gave.
The strength I have, the joy I crave.
Though time may change, the world may turn,
the love I hold, will always burn.

With hopeful eyes, I look ahead,
to days of sunshine, skies of red.
The world is big, with much to see,
but you, my dad, are a part of me.
This Father’s Day, I send my love,
to my dad above, like a gentle dove.
Though fate may separate, time may fade,
the love we share, will never degrade.
